Recently, there has been much more visibility for transgender people as public personalities and activists such as Laverne Cox, Janet Mock and Chaz Bono have stepped up to the forefront speaking for transgender rights.  As a result we have learned so much about the struggles so many transgender people go through with gender identity, housing and job discrimination, healthcare and the unfortunately common danger of hate crimes and incarceration.

With more visibility and activism for trans people the question we must ask is:  what is the most effective strategy for the emerging transgender population in the U.S.? For some, there is no answer to a question about a people who do not exist and therefore do not need rights for their safety and acceptance. But for others, this population of people are in desperate need of support and guarantees of their basic civil rights. In this project we investigate the viewpoints of either to fully recognize their self-identified gender in order to ensure equal rights and opportunities exist for this population and recognize that being transgender is a delusion of those who are too entrenched in the gender binary that is dominant in our society
